Workshop on "Knitting Needles & Fabric Quality Management"
Workshop on ‘Knitting Needles & Fabric Quality Management” was organized by Department of Fashion Apparel Management and the students association ‘FAMus ‘at NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, Tirupur on Friday 14/12/2018. DR.K.P.Balakrishnan, Principal, NIFT-TEA College presided over the function and Mr.P.Nagaraj, Resource Person from Groz - Beckert Asia Pvt. Ltd was the chief guest. In his address, Mr. P.Nagaraj says needles are the core element in knitting machine which directly influences the fabric quality. Knitting industry in Tirupur has grown multifold over the years due to technological advancement and use of imported machines. Knit garment manufacturing engages Circular and flat knitting machines both of which utilize various types of needles mainly latch needles. Functioning of needles are very intricate compared other elements in knitting machine which often leads malfunctioning and worn out or damages which leads to various kinds of fabric defects. Type of fibre yarn used for knitting influences the durability of needles and use of synthetic fibre yarns reduces the durability than the natural fibre yarn. Needles have to be replaced periodically without waiting for worn out or complete breakage to assure fabric quality. He demonstrated the working of latch needles and its loop forming processes through animation videos and samples. At the end of the program, resource person interacts with Students and clarified their doubts. I and II year students of B.Sc Fashion Apparel Management were participated in the program. Dr.K.P.Balakrishnan, Principal, NIFT TEA college delivered presidential address and Dr.P.P.Gopalakrishnan, HoD, Department of Fashion Apparel Management welcomed the gathering. The function concluded with vote of thanks by Mr.K.Kannan Assistant Professor. Program was co ordinate by department faculty members Mr. K.Balamurugan Assistant Professor, Dr.N.Velmathi, Assistant Professor and Mr.T.Manikandan Assistant Professor and Mr.Sathyanarayanan Placement Officer.
